Chapters is operated by Clockwork Wholesale, LLC, doing business as Chapters. This policy explains how we collect, use, and share personal information across our websites, storefronts, shopping features, and community spaces.

Chapters uses Shopify for commerce and account services, alongside other providers that help us operate the app.

What we collect

What we collect depends on how you use Chapters.

Information you provide

This may include:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, and delivery and billing addresses.

  • Profile information, such as your handle, photo, biography, and preferences.

  • Posts, comments, tasting notes, recipes, lists, photos, videos, and other contributions.

  • Messages you send to our support team.

  • Notification preferences, marketing choices, and records of consent.

  • Information required to verify your age or eligibility on stores that require it.

Purchases and participation

We collect information about products you view, save, add to your cart, or purchase, along with order status, cancellations, returns, and refunds.

We also collect information about your chapter memberships, hosting activity, edition participation, follows, reactions, and other interactions with the community.

Shopify and payment providers process payment information. The information available to Chapters depends on the payment service and may include payment status, transaction identifiers, and limited payment-method details.

Device and usage information

We may collect your IP address, browser and device information, identifiers, referring pages, and information about how you navigate and use Chapters.

Cookies and similar technologies may help keep you signed in, remember preferences, operate shopping features, measure usage, and support advertising where enabled.

Where information comes from

We collect information:

  • Directly from you when you create an account, contribute content, make a purchase, or contact us.

  • Automatically when you use our websites and services.

  • From Shopify and providers supporting payments, authentication, age verification, communications, analytics, security, and fulfillment.

  • From other users when they interact with you or include information about you in their contributions.

If you use a supported login service, we receive the information that service makes available through the connection.

How we use it

We use personal information to:

  • Create and maintain accounts and profiles.

  • Authenticate users and manage access to chapters, editions, and restricted content.

  • Process purchases and coordinate fulfillment, support, cancellations, and refunds.

  • Publish contributions and support discussions, lists, recipes, reactions, and other community features.

  • Send account, order, chapter, and edition notifications.

  • Remember preferences and help people discover relevant products, people, and chapters.

  • Send promotional communications and support advertising where permitted.

  • Verify age or eligibility where required.

  • Detect fraud, investigate abuse, moderate content, and protect the service.

  • Understand usage, fix problems, and improve Chapters.

  • Meet legal obligations and resolve disputes.

Joining a chapter, ordering a product, or creating an account does not by itself constitute consent to promotional text messages.

What other people can see

Chapters includes public and restricted spaces. The audience for information depends on where it appears and the access rules for that feature.

Profiles and public contributions

Information on a public profile and contributions made in public spaces may be visible to other users and people outside Chapters. Public content may also appear in search results or be shared elsewhere.

Chapters and editions

Chapter membership and participation in an edition are different relationships. Access to discussions, participant names, tasting notes, and other content depends on the rules for that space.

A link to an invitation does not necessarily provide access to its participant roster or discussion. Likewise, membership in a chapter does not necessarily provide access to every edition’s restricted content.

Moving a private edition into a chapter does not, by itself, make its restricted discussion or attributed tasting notes available to the wider chapter.

Hosts

Hosts may receive information needed to manage their chapters or editions, such as member profiles, participation information, and contributions they are authorized to view. Hosting does not, by itself, provide access to another person’s payment details or delivery address.

Access for support and safety

Authorized staff and service providers may access restricted information when needed to operate Chapters, provide support, investigate abuse, protect security, or comply with law.

People who can view content may copy or share it outside Chapters. We cannot guarantee that information will remain within its original audience.

Age verification

Some Chapters stores offer age-restricted products and require age verification. Requirements may vary by product, store, and location.

Verification may be handled by a specialist provider. Depending on the method used, the process may require information such as your date of birth, identity information, or supporting documents. The verification process should explain what is required before you submit it.

Chapters may receive a verification result and related records needed to apply age restrictions, prevent misuse, and document compliance. Information submitted directly to a verification provider is also subject to that provider’s privacy notice.

We use age-verification information to assess eligibility, prevent fraud, and meet legal obligations. We do not use identity documents submitted for verification as community content or promotional material.

Do not send identity documents to our general support email unless we have directed you to an appropriate secure process.

Who we share information with

We share information when needed to provide Chapters, fulfill requests, or meet legal obligations.

Shopify and service providers

Providers may process information for hosting, authentication, payments, age verification, storage, analytics, communications, customer support, security, and other operational purposes.

Roasters, makers, and carriers

Products ship directly from our brand partners. We share information needed to fulfill and support an order, which may include your name, delivery address, contact information, and the products ordered.

Carriers receive information needed to deliver shipments. Orders involving multiple partners may require sharing the relevant fulfillment information with each partner.

Other users

We make information available to other users according to the visibility and access rules described above.

Advertising partners

Where advertising features are enabled, information about your activity may be shared with advertising and measurement partners, subject to applicable law and your privacy choices.

Some disclosures may qualify as a “sale,” “sharing,” or “targeted advertising” under applicable privacy laws, even when no money is exchanged.

Corporate and legal purposes

We may share information within our corporate group when needed for the purposes described in this policy.

We may also disclose information in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, or when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to valid legal requests, enforce agreements, or protect people and rights.

Shopify’s role

Shopify processes information to support commerce, accounts, checkout, payments, security, and other services used by Chapters.

Where Shopify Network Intelligence and related enhanced services are enabled, Shopify may use information about interactions with our store together with information from other merchants and Shopify services. For certain processing, Shopify acts independently and handles the corresponding privacy requests.

Learn more in the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy. You can also visit the Shopify Privacy Portal to learn about or exercise rights relating to Shopify’s processing.

Cookies and advertising

We use cookies and similar technologies for functions such as authentication, shopping carts, preferences, security, and measurement. Advertising technologies may also be used where enabled and permitted.

Where available, use the privacy controls on our websites to manage nonessential cookies and advertising choices. You can also adjust browser settings, although blocking some technologies may affect how Chapters works.

You may request an opt-out of applicable sale, sharing, or targeted advertising through our privacy choices page or by emailing help@chapters.shop.

Where required by applicable law, we honor recognized opt-out preference signals, including Global Privacy Control. Other browser “Do Not Track” signals do not necessarily receive the same treatment.

Notifications, email, and texts

Chapters may send messages about your account, orders, security, and activity in chapters or editions.

Available notification controls depend on the feature and delivery channel. Promotional emails include an unsubscribe option. To stop promotional texts, reply STOP or contact help@chapters.shop.

Opting out of promotional messages does not necessarily stop essential account, transaction, or legal notices. Our Terms of Service include additional information about text messaging.

We share phone numbers and messaging-consent records with providers as needed to deliver messages and manage consent.

Keeping and deleting information

We retain information for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy, including maintaining accounts, providing services, keeping transaction records, preventing fraud, resolving disputes, and meeting legal obligations.

Different types of information may have different retention periods. Closing an account does not necessarily remove records we must keep or immediately remove information from backups.

Contributions to shared spaces may require different treatment from account details. When you request deletion, we will explain the applicable options and any limits, subject to your legal rights.

Copies made by other users or third-party services may remain outside our control.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • Access or receive a copy of your personal information.

  • Correct inaccurate information.

  • Request deletion.

  • Obtain information in a portable format.

  • Opt out of certain advertising, sale, or sharing activities.

  • Withdraw consent where processing relies on it.

  • Object to or restrict certain processing.

  • Appeal a decision about your privacy request.

These rights may have exceptions. We may need to verify your identity before responding. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted, and we may ask for proof of authorization.

Email help@chapters.shop to make a request. We will respond within the time required by applicable law and will not unlawfully discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

You may also have the right to complain to your local privacy regulator.

Security

We use safeguards intended to protect personal information. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access or disclosure will never occur.

Protect access to your account and avoid sending payment information, identity documents, or other sensitive information through public posts or ordinary support messages.

Children and restricted products

Chapters is intended for adults who meet the eligibility requirements in our Terms of Service. Certain stores and products impose additional age restrictions.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable minimum age. If you believe a child has provided information in violation of these requirements, contact help@chapters.shop.

International processing

Our providers may store or process information outside the country where you live. Privacy laws in those locations may differ from those in your country.

Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, we use the required transfer mechanisms.

Other websites

Links to roasters, makers, articles, and other services may take you outside Chapters. Those services have their own privacy practices. Review their policies before providing information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services and practices change. We will publish the revised version, update the date, and provide additional notice when required by law.
