Chapters and editions

What is a chapter?
A small group with a shared taste. Some are open to anyone, some ask you to request a place, and some are invite only — the chapter’s own page says which.
What is an edition?
One shared tasting. Whoever is hosting picks something and says why; everyone in the chapter orders their own, and when it arrives you compare notes.
Do I have to take part in every edition?
No. Sitting one out costs nothing and you stay in the chapter.
Who pays for an edition?
Everyone buys their own. A host picking something is making an offer, not splitting a bill — you see what they chose and decide whether to order it, and joining in costs nothing until you do.
What if nobody else orders?
You still get what you ordered, and it arrives the same way. An edition with one person in it is a small edition, not a cancelled one.
Can I cancel?
Any time before your order reaches the maker. After that it is theirs to pack and the returns policy takes over.
Can I start my own chapter?
Yes. You choose who can join, and hosting can pass around the group rather than staying with you.

Orders and delivery

Who sends my order?
The maker, not us. Everything here comes from independent producers who run their own shop, pack their own parcels and hand them to the carrier themselves — so what you ordered ships from them, on their schedule. See About.
How long will it take to arrive?
That is the maker’s to say, and it varies by what you ordered — many makers make to order, so your parcel may not leave for a few days. The maker’s own shipping information is the one to go by.
Why did my order arrive in more than one parcel?
Because more than one maker is in it. Each one packs and ships what they made, so an edition drawn from two makers arrives as two parcels, often a day or two apart and with tracking of their own.
My order is late, or tracking has stopped moving.
Once a parcel is with USPS or UPS it is in their hands, and delays there are outside anyone’s control — ours and the maker’s. Most late parcels turn up. Write to help@chapters.shop and we will chase it with the maker and the carrier, though we cannot take responsibility for a shipment the carrier loses or misdelivers.
Something arrived damaged, or never arrived.
Start with the maker who sent it — they hold the order and can replace or refund it fastest. The returns policy is what actually governs this, and it is worth reading before anything else here.
Is this a subscription?
No. Nothing is sent automatically and nothing recurs. You pay once, for the thing you chose, when you choose it.

Your account

How do I change my name, handle or photo?
In profile settings, which is also where you choose how much of your name other members see.
Who can see what I post?
Each post carries its own audience, set when you write it. What a chapter can see depends on whether that chapter is public or private. There is no setting that overrides it -- what we collect and why is in the privacy policy.
How do I delete my account?
From account settings. You can export what you have written first.

Still stuck?

Write to help@chapters.shop and tell us what happened. If it is about an order, the maker’s name and roughly when you ordered will get you an answer faster.
